Past President of St. Brigid Division, Alice Mary Murphy, passes February 18, 2009
MURPHY, Alice Mary (nee Rolfes), loving mother of: Mary Murphy of Allegany, OR., Ann (John) Schuette
of Edgewood, KY., Patty (Roger) Franklin, Joseph and Michael Murphy. Dear sister of John (Carol),
Mark (Judy) Rolfes, the late Louis (Gertrude) Rolfes, the late Robert and Jeanne Rolfes and the late
Joe (Ann) Rolfes. Devoted grandmother of 9 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 82 years of age. Alice Mary served President of the
St. Brigid Division #1 of Hamilton County from January,1999 to December 2000.

PAST OHIO STATE PRESIDENT JOAN CAVANAUGH CALLED HOME TO GOD FEBRUARY 29, 2008
Joan Cavanaugh was a active member of the LAOH for forty years. She held offices on the Division,
County and State levels including Division, County and State President. Joan served as
the Secretary to the LAOH National Constitutional Committee in St Paul, a Committee Chair at the
1988 AOH/LAOH National Convention and at the 1997 Ohio State Convention. She was the Co Guardian of
the Ohio State Degree Team. Her dedication to our Order was evident by her willingness to serve as the
first President of the recently combined LAOH Division 5/ 10. In recognition of her dedication to our
Order, Joan was named Hibernian of the Year in 1989.
Joan was a very active member of the Irish Community of Cleveland. She had membership in the following
organizations: the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Greater Cleveland Feis Society(serving as Treasurer), I
rish American Club East Side,Irish Cultural Gardens, Murphy Irish Arts Center, West Side Irish American
Club and the United Irish Societies. She had a strong love and commitment to preserving our Irish Culture.
Joan had served for 44 years as a Delegate representing the Irish to the Cleveland Cultural Garden Federation.
Joan had served for the past 28 years with the Murphy Irish Arts Center as a Trustee of the Board of
Directors, Administrative Director and the Coordinator of the Children's Unit of the St. Patrick's
Day Parade. The United Irish Societies of Cleveland selected Joan Murphy Cavanaugh as the 2006 Irish
Mother of the Year.
Joan is survived by her husband Jim Cavanaugh, children Maureen(Mark) and Jim(Kelly) and grandchildren Sean
and Kevin. Her love of her Irish Heritage was passed on to her by her parents. Joan passed on that love to
her children and grandchildren and also to all the children whose lives she has touched through Irish
Dance.
Joan Cavanaugh lived our motto and her dedication and loyalty to our Order was evident by her continuous
service over the past 40 years. At the AOH/ LAOH National Convention held in Boston 2006, National Life
Membership was conferred to Joan Murphy Cavanaugh for her 40 years of outstanding and distinguished service
to the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
