The Junior Division of the LAOH 2010

The Junior Division of the LAOH 2010 Scrapbook won First prize for the best scrap book in the Country at the National LAOH Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. The winning Scrapbook will be on display at the Junior table in the Gathering Vendor tent. The Junior Division of the LAOH holds monthly or by-monthly meetings at the AOH Hibernian Hall, 5110 Southern Blvd. Youngstown, Ohio. Applications for membership are available.
Membership in the Juniors is open to interested Catholic girls between 6 and 18 years of age and Irish by descent or adoption. The Junior’s patron is Saint Brigid and their hymn is Our Lady of Knock. Each meeting focuses on an aspect of Irish history or culture. The Juniors participate in numerous service projects. Their motto is to promote "friendship, unity and Christian Charity."
Tickets on a Junior fundraiser are available for $2. The drawing is Sunday evening at the Gathering of the Irish Clans Irish festival. A lucky winner will take home a beautiful, artist signed 2010 limited edition Parian China Pitcher in the lovely Belleek basket weave design.

(For nearly 150 years, the northern most county in Ireland, County Donegal, has been famous for its parian china production of pieces that are unique, original, and creative and will appreciate in value in the years ahead. The beauty and delicacy of Donegal Parian China has won the hearts of many people and the china has found its way to homes all over the world.)

I sold all I had of our Junior Note Cards with funds designated to Relay For Life at the Convention and did put out some of the older cards. Total cash received was $55 given to our Treasurer for the next Relay For Life in 2011. Before National Conventions, we should draft and mail a letter to the National Board requesting a table to display - sell Junior projects.
At the meeting of all the Junior leaders chaired by National Vice-President, Margaret Hennessy the Juniors passed a proposal requesting the National Board to pay for the cost of “striking” the new Junior Logo medal. The new medals will be available through the Ladies Ancient Order Of Hibernians, Inc. National Jewelry Chairperson. I spoke with her, Mary Ellen Pelletier, at the convention. E-mail contact DPRaider@aol.com. Checks are made out to “LAOH National Board” and mailed to her at: 66 Amherst Street, Lawrence, MA. 01843. The Ribbons for the Junior medals is to be light blue. Juniors may decide if they want medals, a sash, or a patch to designate membership and can design their own.
The National Hibernian of 2010-2012 is Katlin Armstrong of Our Lady of Knock Division, South Carolina. The Vice-president sent the nominations to 5 Judges from States that did not have a Junior Hibernian nomination. Rachel Kepley received honorable mention gift and certificate.
The Junior Leaders from Pennsylvania plan to invite representatives of nearby Junior Divisions to their next Junior Convention per Dot Crowley, coordinator. She also read a Junior Prayer composed by another Pa. Leader that will be shared with all Junior Divisions.
The National Board confirmed that all Junior Divisions exist under their local LAOH 501c 3 Federal I.D. number with regards to finances. New: The Juniors will be asked at the end of the fiscal year, to send their LAOH treasurer information from the Checking account on Excel. It is to be a simple form: Check book balance, identify income and Fundraising expenses, and total fundraising money raised and donated to other causes, Sent per capita tax, mission dues sent and year ending December 31st balance.
The National Board asks LAOH Divisions to appoint a reliable coordinator who will pass on all information. The LAOH Division Vice-President should be actively involved in meetings and Junior projects. All Junior news worthy information should be forwarded to the National and State Webmasters and sent to the National Vice President. The new National Vice President is Maureen Shelton, 14156 South Dixie, Monroe, MI 48161. Be sure she has our Divisions e-mail contact.
Juniors were encouraged to participate in the National History Day! Possible topics mentioned: Grade school-Annie Moore and for High school-Irish in building America’s infrastructure.
