Hibernian of the Year Award
Akron, Ohio: The Annie Moore Division of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH)
posthumously awarded Cuyahoga Falls resident Barbara Putman with their “Hibernian of the Year
Award”. The LAOH is an Irish Catholic sororal organization that promotes Irish Heritage and
lives by the motto in friendship, unity, and Christian charity. The award was presented in her
memory to Barbara Case Putman.
As a charter member of the Annie Moore LAOH division, Putman was an excellent leader who held
various offices from President to Historian, to Sentinel to name a few. The bi-ennial award
was established to honor outstanding division members. The decision to honor Putman was
unanimous as her qualifications were numerous. She was devoted to making the division the best
it could be, as she volunteered and attended every meeting, function and convention until she
became sick. Her excellent leadership inspired many with her embodiment of the LAOH motto in
friendship, unity, and Christian charity. Her love for God, family and her Irish heritage was
